Capital: Nay Pyi Taw (although the largest city is Yangon)
Population: 48,700,000 (UN 2012)
Major Languages: Burmese (official), indigenous ethnic languages
Major Religions: Buddhism, Christianity, Islam
Government: Military rule 1962 -2011. Army-led transition to a representative government.
